“Galvanize” by The Chemical Brothers (2005)

Some Dude’s 182nd Ironclad Law of Music states: “If you can get Q-Tip to do vocals on your song, your song’s listenability factor jumps up by at least thirty percent.”[1] The Chemical Brothers were always capable of creating some truly addictive and outstanding big beat music[2] but they outdid themselves with “Galvanize,” the track that opens their 2005 offering Push The Button. Combining tribal-like chants, violins, polished beats, Q-Tip’s cool and smooth voice, and various other little textures, “Galvanize” has a beat and rhythm that is nearly impossible to not fall for[3]. Is the song maybe a minute too long? Probably. But the build-up and execution of the first crescendo near the middle of the song is enough to overshadow any of its flaws.

[1] The only other proof you need of this law is “Get It Together” by Beastie Boys.

[2] See: “Life Is Sweet,” “Block Rockin’ Beats,” “Loops Of Fury,” “Let Forever Be”

[3] Budweiser fell in love with it and used the song for a national campaign, and the fact that The Chemical Brothers okay’d its use makes me think that Bud made them a Godfather offer.

Thumbs up :) I have this album – I was surprised to find myself enjoying the radio-played songs from this cd, including Galvanize, so I bought it. It’s a rare dance cd among my metal and alternative rock collection.
